Join us for an insightful wānanga on the critical issue of sea level rise and its impacts on whenua Māori. Learn how to use GIS mapping technology to assess and understand these challenges and gain access to practical tools to communicate the impacts to our whenua and taonga.
Understanding Sea Level Rise Data: Discover available data from NZ SeaRise, NIWA, Toitū te Whenua LINZ, and learn how to interpret the scientific data and scenarios for your area of interest, overlaying land blocks, Marae and significant sites.
Identifying the Impacts: Use GIS mapping overlays to identify areas of impact and show change over time.
Cultural Preservation: Strategies for integrating traditional knowledge within GIS mapping tools to map cultural sites.
Communicating with Whānau: How to present your analysis and share information in meaningful ways, including 3D GIS mapping.
If you would like your specific area of interest included in the GIS mapping analysis and demonstration, please email growgisnz@linz.govt.nz with relevant details, such as an ML block name, to assist our team in incorporating it into the presentation.
This wānanga is for those working with iwi, hapū, Māori communities, environmental managers, and for GIS professionals dedicated to the sustainable management of wai Māori. Join us to gain the knowledge and skills needed to be effective kaitiaki (guardians) of our taonga (treasures).
